Every dog park has a group that seems to know each other, meets at the same time, and leaves before you work out how they organise it. Meanwhile you are new in the city, the dog is bored, and your Nextdoor post has had no replies. Where the regulars actually are
- The same park at the same time, every day. Dog people are creatures of habit; show up at 7.30am or 6pm three days running and you will be in the group by Thursday.
- Breed meetups (goldens, dachshunds, greyhounds, doodles) which run in most cities on a monthly basis and are far less cliquey than a random park.
- Puppy classes and training groups, where everyone is equally awkward.
- Dog-friendly cafés and pubs on a weekend morning, which is where the park group goes afterwards.
The “nobody here” problem with dog apps
The most common one-star review of dog social apps is some version of “I wish more people near me were on it”.
